Shearing Questionnaire

SHEARING DAY CHECKLIST

  1. Keep sheep off feed and water for a minimum of 12 hours prior to shearing and do not give them access to food or water until after they have been shorn. Withholding food is a commonly practiced health/welfare standard to keep the sheep comfortable and prevent them from rare but possible complications such as suffocation.

  2. Sheep must be bone dry for shearing. Sheep will not be sheared if wet or too damp. Too much potential for hazard is presented when handling wet sheep; for both the shearer and sheep.

  3. Completely level floor and perhaps some sort of shelter.

  4. Small pen near the area where the sheep sheared. It will make it much easier for you or whoever is catching the sheep.

We understand that some people may not be able to provide some of the things listed above. If that is the case, please reach out beforehand so we can plan accordingly. We are confident we can figure out a reasonable solution(s). With that said numbers 1, and 2 are absolutely necessary. Sheep cannot be sheared if any of the two are not met.
